France’s wine trail: combining holiday and gastronomy!

Whether it’s to see the stunning vineyard landscapes, to do some brisk walking, or to learn about the various wine producers and the history, the wine trail attracts numerous holiday makers each year. Over the course of your stay in your holiday rental in the Aquitaine region, or during your holidays in Alsace, the two most well-known wine trails are full of discovery!


Wine trails in France


Well known throughout the world, the possible itineraries for the Alsace and Bordeaux wine trails offer numerous opportunities for you to improve your knowledge during your week in an Alsace holiday rental. You could follow a beautiful route, stopping off in towns and villages full of character which will help you discover a charming region with an unbeatable gastronomy.


The Alsace wine trail is particularly well known because it offers fantastic trips, a fascinating history, and an incredible variety of wines. If you choose a holiday rental in the Alsace region, you’ll notice how the towns all have a rich history, and the beauty of the architecture, sometimes dating all the way back to the medieval era. You could start your stay in Alsace in the town of Obernai, an area full of charm boasting numerous places to visit and things to do, as well as fantastic cuisine.

Carrying on towards the South on the wine trail, you’ll reach Ribeauvillé, where a stop off is essential to admire the town’s stunning medieval architecture. You could then carry on your journey towards Colmar, Alsace’s wine capital, where you could visit one of its numerous monuments, or take a walk along the docks or one of its many flower lined streets.


You could stay near to Colmar in a holiday rental in Eguisheim, one of the prettiest villages in France, where you will be charmed by the flower lines streets and medieval architecture. Located on the edge of a hill, the village is surrounded by vineyards and offers a great base for your holidays in the Alsace region.


Along the entire length of the wine routes, you could explore various walking trails, or head on a bike ride to discover the view points and Alsace views for which the area is known.


Holidays along the Bordeaux wine trail


In order to get to know the different varieties of grape in Bordeaux, if you choose to stay there, you could follow all sorts of different itineraries! The Bordeaux wine trail isn’t just about visiting wine cellars, but also trips to various fascinating estates and chateaux.


During your holidays in Aquitaine, head inland to discover Saint Emilion, a fascinating medieval village. You’ll find more than a thousand estates in Aquitaine, suitable for both wine amateurs and experts alike!


The Bourgogne wine trail


Not far from Paris, holidays in the Cote d’Or or the Yonne are a great base for visiting some of France’s largest wineries, and when you go there, you’ll discover how well Bourgogne cuisine and their wines go together. On holiday in the Bourgogne region, you could visit the pretty town of Auxerre and the famous Chablis winery located nearby. If you choose to stay around the Cote d’Or, begin your journey in Dijon by taking a walk along stunning promenade, as well as vising its fascinating monuments and historic buildings before beginning your journey along the wine trail, which you could follow at a leisurely pace by bike thanks to a cycle track. You could head towards the Cote de Nuits, and find yourself in Beaune, a marvellous town of art and history, and an ideal destination for those who aren’t familiar with the Cote de Beaune area.
