If you happen to be staying in Palmyra for your holidays, don’t forget to discover the Palmyre Zoo. Inaugurated in 1966, the latter offers an exotic and educational walk through a panoramic landscaped park that extends to over eighteen acres, where around 1,600 animals can be seen in a near wild environment.

Created by Mr Claude Caille, this piece of heaven today welcomes approximately 800,000 visitors each year! The vast space is dedicated to the awareness of the visitors about endangered species and the natural habitats. Kids actually love it.

Situated about 10 kilometres from Royan, the Palmyre Zoo is the largest establishment of its kind in Europe and tends to educate visitors about the reintroduction of endangered species into the wild. The zoo is the safe haven for polar bears, lemurs from Madagascar, apes or Asian elephants amongst others. The zoo is also a nursery which sees round 200 to 300 births yearly.
During your stay in La Palmyre, you will have the unique opportunity of discovering nearly 115 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. And if you happen to be staying on the northern coast of Atlantic, during the spring, you will actually be able to enjoy the sight of the sea lions and parrots! La Palmyre zoo is 4 hours visit and is open all year round.
